The “Five W’s” of Father’s Journey

by Chris on October 10, 2009

ChrisProfilePictureHello world! This is my first post, and I can’t wait to see what I learn and who I meet from this experience. Following are the details of what you should expect to get out of the Father’s Journey community.

Who:

Who am I trying to reach? Well, I’m trying to connect with fellow imperfect men trying to be good fathers, their spouses and significant others looking to help and motivate their kid’s dad, and young men and couples who are expecting or contemplating having a child in the future. If you don’t fit in any of these audiences and find my content to be worth your time, please let me know so I am aware of who I’m connecting with!

Who am I? My name is Chris, and I am the father to six children ranging in age from 2 to 16, all still living at home. I have been a software developer at Microsoft since 1997, and active duty in the U.S. Air Force before that. I recently realized that my kids deserve better than I have given them so far, and I really want to change for the better, for myself and everyone in my family.  In order to protect the privacy of my wife and kids, I will be giving them all pseudo-names in all of my posts and I recommend that you do the same. I’l be sharing more about my family and rough history of how we got where we are in life on my About page.

What:

Father’s Journey will cover the following topics (plus anything else that seems appropriate as the community grows):

  • Experiences as a father and husband that I believe worthy of your valuable time and helpful to you along your own journey.
  • Experiences that leave me seeking answers to questions that I believe others in this community may also be facing, with hopes that we can find solutions and new perspectives from our collective journey as fathers or children of fathers :).
  • Suggested activities, habits and how-to content aimed at helping you (or your loved one) be a more successful father.
  • Book reviews, article commentaries from other resources, occasional random thoughts, jokes and rants, and anything else I think might be useful to you.
  • When:

I will post as often as I can, at least 2-3 times a week, occasionally more than once a day.

    Where:

Wherever I am in the world at the time of posting, and wherever you are when you read, listen to or watch me! Also, “wherever” each of us are in our journey as fathers. Some of us are new or expecting parents, others are seasoned fathers will grown kids (but still fathers!).

    Why:

The purpose of this community is for imperfect fathers who love their kids to hold each other accountable for their actions (and often inaction), and to encourage loved ones to do the same. I also hope to make lifetime friends with like-minded people. I really do care about everyone in this community, and want help you make a difference in your family.

    And sometimes How:

While I’ll be writing mostly at first, I also want to deliver podcast and videos whenever I can. Please subscribe to this blog. You’ll have the choice to subscribe in your favorite news reader, or have my posts sent to you via email if you prefer.
